Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala sells $484,616 in stockHas it been a year already? Let's be honest. Almost nobody watches Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards because they care about the pat-on-the-back trophy presentations. We're there for the announcements and trailers. It's one of the best annual shows for giving us the latest gaming goodness in the form of a shotgun blast to the face. We sifted through the show and found some of our favorite updates and announcements. It is by no means an exhaustive list, so please forgive us if you don't see your favorite. Better yet, drop your favorite trailer or announcement in the comments for the rest of us to enjoy. We've also sprinkled in some of the award winners for the three people who care about that. So here we go, in no particular order. The Last of US maker, Naughty Dog, surprised us with the reveal of a brand new IP. It's a sci-fi adventure with a strong female lead character named Jordan A Mun, played by Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). Mun is a bounty hunter looking for a criminal on a desolate planet from which nobody has escaped in 600 years. It should be a nice break from the post-apocalyptic zombie-survival series. Best Ongoing Game – Hellivers 2, also Best Multiplayer Game OtherSide Entertainment announced its latest project called Thick as Thieves. It's a multiplayer stealth action game with at least three playable anti-heroes trying to beat each other out of a heist. The game has an impressive production team that includes Deus Ex creator Warren Spector, Looking Glass Studios founder Paul Neurath, and Thief: The Dark Project lead Greg LoPiccolo. So we have high expectations. Best Independent Game – Balatro, also Best Mobile Game and Best Debut Indie Game While we knew CD Projekt Red was working on The Witcher 4, we did not really expect it to have any morsels for us this soon. It's only a cinematic trailer, so there isn't much to assume from it without further information. However, it seems Ciri is the star of the show. The trailer shows her as a full-fledged witcher sporting the Wolf School's iconic medium armor, drinking poison, and kicking monster butt. Since we did get to play a short segment of The Witcher 3 as non-witcher Ciri, CDPR likely expanded that idea. Don't be surprised if we get to play both heroes. It's just hard to imagine CDPR pushing out a enumerated Witcher game without Geralt. We shall see. Best Action Game – Black Myth: Wukong, also Best Player's Voice Indie studio Hazelight announced an intriguing title called Split Fiction. It's a co-op adventure that takes place in two worlds simultaneously. The split-world dynamic reminds us a lot of the 2021 split-world game Medium. However, instead of the two worlds being the real world and the spirit realm, Split Fiction worlds are sci-fi and fantasy. Unsurprisingly, it also has partner-game elements similar to Hazelight's It Takes Two . It's a unique idea that puts this one squarely on our radar. Best VR/AR Game – Arkham Shadow We don't have much to say about this one other than "Yay!" The Mafia franchise started in 2002 with the titular game. Mafia II launched in 2010, and Mafia III came in 2016. The entire series is excellent but should be played in order, as each subsequent title was progressively more polished than the previous. The Old Country is a prequel to the series set in the early 1900s in Sicily rather than America. If 2K Games and developer Hanger 13 continue with the trend set by its predecessors, The Old Country should be a fine addtion to the franchise. Best Community Support – Baldur's Gate 3 Following on the heels of the stupendously successful Elden Ring and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, FromSoftware is taking the Souls-like in a slightly different direction in this co-op action spinoff. The trailer reminds us of other co-op games, notably the Monster Hunter series. Not much else is known about it, so we'll have to keep our earholes open for details. Best Narrative – Metaphor: ReFantanzio What else is there to say about this one other than "The Outer Worlds 2, Baby!" If you haven't played The Outer Worlds , what are you waiting for? It's a masterpiece from Fallout New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment. Many have rightfully described it as Fallout New Vegas in space. If you don't like Fallout New Vegas or The Outer Worlds, we can't be friends. Kidding. Not kidding. Best Score and Music – Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth When Gearbox dropped its "NOT ACTUAL GAMEPLAY" teaser for Borderlands 4, it triggered millions of fans' saliva glands. The short clip gave away absolutely nothing, yet it sent folks chomping at the bit for its vague 2025 release. It was even one fan's dying wish to play it early, which Gearbox promised to see what it could do. The Game Awards gave us our first glimpse of gameplay that that fan is probably enjoying right now. Don't expect anything out-of-formula, though – four new hunters, gazillions of guns, and plenty of trouble to get into and out of, as the case may be. Game of the Year – Astro Bot, also Best Game Direction, Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Family Game There were plenty of other trailers and Game Awards winners that we didn't have space for, so scrub through the full show (masthead), and let us know what you liked. Also check out our more indepth coverage of The Witcher 4 and Elden Ring Nightreign (queued to go live shortly).
GLASGOW, Scotland -- Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers raised his hands to his head in despair before his own goal crossed the line to give Club Brugge the lead in a Champions League match that ended in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday. The United States international played a no-look pass back from 10 yards (meters) toward his own net where he thought goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel would be. Schmeichel was not there, and the ball rolled slowly into the corner of the goal as the veteran Denmark goalkeeper raced helplessly across his line. He narrowly avoiding crashing into the goal post. The unforced error by Carter-Vickers gifted Club Brugge a 26th-minute lead at Celtic Park. Celtic has impressed in the Champions League this season and earned another point on Japan international Daizen Maeda's goal in the 60th. The Scottish champion is 20th in the 36-team standings with eight points, which UEFA projected before the season as likely enough to advance to the knockout stage. Celtic is away to Dinamo Zagreb on Dec. 10, with games in January against last-place Young Boys and Aston Villa. The top eight teams in January go directly to the round of 16 in March, and teams placed from ninth to 24th enter a playoffs round in February. Those two-leg playoffs will decide the other eight round of 16 teams. ___ AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccerLAKE FOREST, Calif, Dec. 13, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ATIF Holdings Limited (NASDAQ: ATIF , the "Company" or "ATIF") announced today that the Company plans on changing its Nasdaq ticker symbol from "ATIF” to "ZBAI”. 1 2 Lucknow: Acknowledging that prevention is a pillar of hope to save human lives from the threat of cardiovascular diseases , Union defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that healthcare costs impose a significant economic strain globally, especially for low and middle-income countries. "There is a critical need for a robust preventive cardiology framework . In fact, prevention is the primary armour and pillar of hope to combat India's CVD burden. Early detection, lifestyle modifications and widespread awareness programmes are essential to reduce the burden of CVD, particularly among younger individuals who are increasingly at risk," he said, speaking at CSI's 76th annual conference fellowship programme. The fellowship was awarded to 15 doctors from across the country. Welcoming the delegates as the MP of Lucknow, he said that CVDs remain a significant global public health issue and expressed concern over the extent of the problem in India. "CVD is the leading cause of mortality worldwide, and India is no exception, with an estimated 30 million patients suffering from coronary artery disease. In addition to the numbers, the early onset of disease in India, its urban-rural divide, needs of specific groups like the elderly, and dire shortage of cardiologists (just one for one lakh population) complicate it further," he said. Calling upon CSI, he added: "The circumstances in India make prevention extremely pertinent. Greater emphasis on preventive cardiology, including lifestyle modifications and risk factor management, is needed. Efforts must be made alongside to expand tele-cardiology and find cost-effective ways to treat patients." Mentioning that the Indian govt was trying its best to extend the best quality healthcare services to the people, he said: "A number of public health initiatives have been launched. But the govt's contribution needs the support of the medical fraternity, community and every individual to make India's present and future generations truly healthy." Singh said that in his role as defence minister, he realised that one of the most vulnerable and challenging parts is to keep the entire defence force disease-free. "This is because the personnel in the armed forces work 24x7x365 days, in very volatile scenarios and under extremely difficult climatic conditions. Also, man-made threats from our neighbours in the region are also there. Aware of the challenges, the Indian govt earmarked Rs 6.2 lakh crore for the 2024-25 fiscal's defence budget, which is being used for the overall upkeep of the forces encompassing the upgradating of capacity building, induction of modern technology, and the healthcare of the defence forces. The primal area of concern is the health of our forces, which needs to be reviewed from time to time; in which cardiovascular and diabetes are seen as major contributors," he said. Addressing the fellowship awardees, he said: "Today marks a significant milestone in your journey as cardiologists. But with great power comes great responsibility. Remember to always put your patients first, to listen to their concerns, to empathise with their struggles, and to provide them with compassionate and evidence-based care." Lebawit Lily Girma | (TNS) Bloomberg News When winter rolls around, travelers predictably turn their attention to beaches. And this year, it’s the destination that comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called “a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean” that’s experiencing outsize demand from Americans planning a warm island vacation. Talk about trashing stereotypes. Related Articles Travel | Would you pay $700 a night to sleep under the stars at this Colorado resort? Travel | GM halts funding for Cruise robotaxi program Travel | Thailand’s starring role in ‘The White Lotus’ is about to pay off Travel | 5 under-the-radar travel destinations the UN says you should visit Travel | Gift ideas for people planning their next trip Puerto Rico has recovered overseas visitors (excluding those from Canada and Mexico) faster than any U.S. state or territory — a staggering 85% increase over its 2019 overseas inbound visitor levels as of 2023, according to an October study from the U.S. National Travel and Tourism Office. There are now more daily flights from the U.S. West Coast, and hotel bookings are 6% higher so far in this last quarter of 2024 year-over-year. It’s a trifecta of tourism growth: more visitors, but also longer stays and a higher spend that reached a record $9.8 billion in 2023, boosting small businesses as well as major brands. “We don’t have a slow season in Puerto Rico anymore,” says Brad Dean, chief executive officer at Discover Puerto Rico. Even if they’re not booking, people are dreaming about “La Isla.” By tracking flight searches for trips between November 2024 and February 2025, a measure of “inspirational” demand, tourism intelligence company Mabrian Technologies reports Puerto Rico is up 9% compared with the same period last year and leads Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the Bahamas in the Caribbean proper. Only Costa Rica ranked higher in the wider region. Dean attributes Puerto Rico’s ongoing tourism growth to a strategic effort to reposition the island’s brand as more than a sun-and-sea destination, starting back in 2018. That led to the Live Boricua campaign, which began in 2022 and leaned heavily on culture, history and cuisine and was, Dean says, “a pretty bold departure” in the way Puerto Rico was showcased to travelers. He adds that at least $2 billion in tourism spend is linked to this campaign. “We (also) haven’t shied away from actively embracing the LGBTQ+ community, and that has opened up Puerto Rico to audiences that may not have considered the Caribbean before,” Dean says. Hotels are preparing to meet this growing demand: A number of established boutique properties are undergoing upgrades valued between $4 million and more than $50 million, including Hotel El Convento; La Concha, which will join the Marriott Autograph Collection; Condado Vanderbilt Hotel; and the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar. That’s in addition to ultra-chic options that are coming online in 2025, including the adults-only Alma San Juan, with rooms overlooking Plaza Colón in the heart of Old San Juan, and the five-star Veranó boutique hotel in San Juan’s trendy Santurce neighborhood. The beachfront Ritz-Carlton San Juan in Isla Verde will also be reopening seven years after Hurricane Maria decimated the island. The travel industry’s success is helping boost employment on the island, to the tune of 101,000 leisure and hospitality jobs as of September 2024, a 26% increase over pre-pandemic levels, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Efforts to promote Puerto Rico’s provinces beyond the San Juan metro area — such as surfing hub Rincón on the west coast, historical Ponce on the south coast and Orocovis for nature and coffee haciendas in the central mountains —have spread the demand to small businesses previously ignored by the travel industry. Take Sheila Osorio, who leads workshops on Afro-Puerto Rican bomba music and dance at Taller Nzambi, in the town of Loíza, 15 miles east of San Juan; or Wanda Otero, founder of cheese-producing company Vaca Negra in Hatillo, an hour’s drive west of Old San Juan, where you can join a cheese-making workshop and indulge in artisanal cheese tastings. “The list of businesses involved in tourism has gone from 650 in 2018 to 6,100, many of which are artists and artisans,” Dean says. While New Yorkers and Miami residents have always been the largest visitor demographic, Dean says more mainland Americans now realize that going to Puerto Rico means passport-free travel to enjoy beaches, as well as opportunities to dine in Michelin-rated restaurants, hike the only rainforest in the U.S. and kayak in a bioluminescent bay. Visitors from Chicago and Dallas, for example, have increased by approximately 40% from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, compared with the same period in 2022-2023, and more travelers are expected from Denver now that United Airlines Holdings Inc. has kicked off its first nonstop service to San Juan, beginning on Oct. 29. Previously, beach destinations that were easy to reach on direct flights from Denver included Mexico, Belize and California, but now Puerto Rico joins that list with a 5.5-hour nonstop route that cuts more than two hours from the next-best option. Given United Airlines’ hub in San Francisco, it could mean more travelers from the Golden State in the near future, too. In December, U.S. airlines will have 3,000 more seats per day to the territory compared with the same period last year, for a total of 84,731 — surpassing even Mexico and the Dominican Republic in air capacity, according to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, the island’s primary gateway, is projecting a record volume of 13 million passengers by year’s end — far surpassing the 9.4 million it saw in 2019. As for Hinchcliffe’s “floating island of garbage” line, Dean says it was “a terribly insensitive attempt at humor” that transformed outrage into a marketing silver lining, with an outpouring of positive public sentiment and content on Puerto Rico all over social media. Success, as that old chestnut goes, may be the best revenge. “It was probably the most efficient influencer campaign we’ve ever had,” Dean says, “a groundswell of visitors who posted their photos and videos and said, ‘This is the Puerto Rico that I know.’” ©2024 Bloomberg L.P. President-elect Donald Trump’s vow to curtail big tech’s power aligns with about three-quarters of Americans who are concerned about its vast influence, according to a JL Partners poll obtained exclusively by Breitbart News. Seventy-four percent of Americans are very or somewhat worried about big tech’s influence on politics, the economy, and the lives of average Americans, the poll found. Fifteen percent are a little concerned, with just seven percent not at all concerned. Seventy-eight percent are worried about big tech’s expenditure of hundreds of millions of dollars to influence government policymaking. The poll sampled 1,000 registered voters from November 15-18 with a 3.1 percentage point margin of error. The survey comes as Trump vowed to reduce big tech’s power if he won reelection. Trump warned Facebook during the 2024 campaign against a repeat performance. “CEASE & DESIST: I, together with many Attorneys and Legal Scholars, am watching the Sanctity of the 2024 Presidential Election very closely because I know, better than most, the rampant Cheating and Skullduggery that has taken place by the Democrats in the 2020 Presidential Election. It was a Disgrace to our Nation!” Trump posted in September. “Therefore, the 2024 Election, where Votes have just started being cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again. We cannot let our Country further devolve into a Third World Nation, AND WE WON’T!” Trump has a history of pushing back against big tech. During Trump’s first term, his Justice Department and several Republican-controlled states filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google. Trump called the search results “election interference.” “It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J. Trump, some made up for this purpose while, at the same time, only revealing good stories about Comrade Kamala Harris,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “This is an ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, and hopefully the Justice Department will criminally prosecute them for this blatant Interference of Elections.” “If not, and subject to the Laws of our Country, I will request their prosecution, at the maximum levels, when I win the Election, and become President of the United States!” he concluded. Syracuse and Georgetown meet for the 100th time Saturday when the Orange host the Hoyas in the latest installment of their classic rivalry. As former Big East Conference rivals, Syracuse and Georgetown have staged many memorable contests over the decades with the Orange holding a 54-45 all-time advantage. The teams still meet annually despite the Orange now playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Syracuse has won five of the last seven meetings, including a 12-point triumph in Washington D.C. last December. "It definitely felt like a Big East game," Hoyas coach Ed Cooley said after last season's contest. This time around, Georgetown (7-2) is coming off a 73-60 loss to West Virginia in which the team shot under 38 percent from the floor and committed 14 turnovers. "When the ball has music, when the ball is singing, unbelievable music happens," Cooley said. "The music is the play. The music is body movement and screening an open shot. We didn't have good music today." Thomas Sorber is the team's leading scorer at 15.4 points per game, although the freshman has failed to reach that average in six of the last seven games. Syracuse (5-4), meanwhile, is coming off a 102-85 win over Albany despite the absence of leading scorer J.J. Starling (19.8 points), who is out indefinitely with a hand injury. In his stead, freshman Donnie Freeman supplied 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting despite playing just 23 minutes due to an illness. "Whatever (illness) he has, he needs to keep that, if he can keep playing like, whatever he was feeling," Orange coach Adrian Autry joked. Syracuse will be looking for more success from 3-point range after hitting 6-of-15 (40 percent) against Albany. In their previous game -- a five-point loss to Notre Dame -- the Orange failed to make a 3-pointer for the first time in more than a decade. No Syracuse player has made more than 11 3-pointers this season -- and even that player (Chris Bell) is only shooting 25 percent from long distance. --Field Level MediaPercentages: FG .419, FT .714. 3-Point Goals: 7-26, .269 (Kopa 2-9, Thompson 1-1, van der Plas 1-1, Benard 1-2, Sangha 1-2, Godfrey 1-6, McMillan 0-5).
